Karen Nichols, San Francisco Member Since March 2007 Artist StatementKAREN NICHOLS is a San Francisco Bay Area photographer whose work celebrates the natural beauty around her, including the rugged hills of the Marin Headlands and the Pacific Coast. Her lifelong experience as an artist has included formal schooling in illustration, photography and painting, and these sensibilities are woven throughout her work. In particular, her explorations of the Polaroid Image Transfer and Emulsion Transfer processes exploit her full arsenal of artistic skills and blur the line between reality and dreamscape, photography and painting. Her work encompasses an eclectic mix of styles and subjects, including panoramas, floral macros, Polaroid image transfers, SX70 manipulations, Holgas and costumed cats. Her work has been showcased in galleries and magazines worldwide, and she has been featured in Adobe Software's Annual Report. Most recently, her work appeared in the book, "Alternative Photography - Art and Artists 2007," and her work was selected to be permantently exhibited in the new Federal Building in downtown San Francisco which opened in 2007.
