Description In remembrance of the September 11 attacks, the Tribute in Lights art installation shines bright to simulate the lost skyline. On the ten year mark after the tragedy, hundreds gather to watch and pay homage to those who perished on that day.
Terence Lyons, New Jersey Member Since June 2007 Artist Statement I am a perceptually reactive person. I respond to what I see. I'm intuitively drawn to, and often visually distracted by light, line, and reflections. It's just the way I'm wired. Because of this, I often find myself looking at the world through very different glasses.
I'm drawn towards creating photographs with bold colors and scenes that have repetitious shapes or meandering lines and diagonals. By composing these elements within my the camera's viewfinder, depth is created within the two dimensional image that leads the eye deeper into the picture. I also like to create environmental portraits (people-scapes!) that evoke the expressive character.
When I have a camera in my hand...or the few times that I don't, the selective process of composing and interpreting the moment that is in front of me is always turned on. I couldn't turn it off if I wanted to. As a result, I find amazing things every day...many unnoticed, in the mad whirl of life that other people ignore nor do not have the time or inclination to record or remember. It's the amazing that I want to share when I photograph.
