Description I am not sure what to call this method. Through the years I paint many paintings, I photograph them, later crop them to achieve a variety of colors, details and textures. Those colors, etc. are then printed on magnets. The magnets are used as a medium for the general public in a Grand Rapids, Michigan art competition called artprize to create their own artwork on a large magnetic panel. I then photograph those creations (or in many cases, if I wasn't there, the creator sent me a picture of the work by email or by social media). I then digitally enhance the files in order to elevate the works created by the people, who in most cases, told me they were not artistic and knew nothing about art. I will be building a series of these and perhaps it will inspire artprize project 2012...I have a collection of over 400 pieces created over the 3 week period in 2010...this is one of my favorites!
Michelle Calkins, Holland, Michigan Member Since December 2006 Artist Statement Since childhood I have found solace in the creation of art. It is my gift and I try not to waste it. My media of choice are oil & acrylic painting, sculpture and photography.
Having been a professional picture framer since 1990, the presentation aspect of the art world has been foremost on my mind. It is amazing what a great frame can do. Co-owning Four Corners Framing Company in Holland, Michigan since 1999 has afforded me a front row seat to changing tastes, styles and trends. For me, art and framing go hand in hand. You can find my frameshop at www.fourcornersframingco.com.
