Kathie Nichols, Gold Coast Member Since May 2012 Artist Statement Kathie Nichols is a new emerging photographic artist, living on the Gold Coast, Australia. Kathie has been developing a unique and intriguing new style of abstract photographic art over the last four years, selling her work to architectural designers and also through various art sites on the internet. With her unique perspective, using macro photography, Kathie finds and captures miniature abstract art in nature and urban areas. These images are quite often being mistaken for beautiful landscapes, seascapes or abstract paintings.
“Abstract Macro Urban Art”. A unique combination of nature and man-made materials, exposed to the elements just waiting to be found. Rusty old dumpsters, shipping containers, boats and constructions sites are among her favourite places to shoot.
Kathie initially shot macro photos as inspiration for her abstract paintings. The amazing textures and colours found through macro photography are an excellent reference for her to create on canvas. But since discovering the macro world beneath her feet, her camera has some-what replaced her paint brush.
“Abstract Natures Macro Art”, finding truly amazing and often surprising works of art in decaying leaves, tree bark, rocks, clay and soils. Kathie’s photo expeditions are her treasure hunts, searching for art, created by nature, discovered and revealed through her camera lens.
Kathie invites you to explore the amazing hidden beauty found in the macro world of our beautiful planet through her eyes.
