Description TITLE: Avian IbroglioSUPPLIES USED: 16x20 gallery canvas, acrylic paint, gesso, cheesecloth, and newspaper. ARTIST STATEMENT: This piece is about creative and emotional freedom. At the time, I was feeling particularly frustrated, so this painting was created as sort of a release or escape from those frustrations. It symbolizes the drive to rise above circumstances and drawing strength from adversity or uncertainty. I originally had planed to include something relating to a pheonix in the title, but I resigned myself for the current title when my art teacher told me it wasn't pretentious enough. It kind of makes me laugh now, because really what the current title seems to mean in a few words or less is 'big confusing heap of bird', which still holds true to the appearance of the artwork.
