Audrey Grider, Laguna, California Member Since June 2012 Artist Statement Growing up in New York City, I was influenced by the many gifted artists whose works I studied in museums and galleries. In this rich cultural environment, I was given the opportunity to receive training in selective art programs. With an education in both the arts and sciences, I see the world from a variety of perspectives, and enjoy bringing this vision to my artwork. I am motivated to create innovative styles of art, and am inspired by nature and diverse ethnic backgrounds, both ancient and contemporary.
I am in awe of the beauty in the world around us, and manifest this in my paintings and sculpture of a variety of spiritual art subjects including abstracts, spiritual animals, spiritual dancers, and landscapes. My goal is to capture the spirit of the subject and bring it to life. Using oil, acrylic and mixed media, I incorporate metal leaf, texture and other techniques as I strive to achieve a fresh and thought-provoking style. As I work, it is almost as if there is a dialogue, and through this process I develop each piece's character with vibrance and energy.
The joy in painting for me is not to render an exact likeness of the subject, but to interpret and create a new reality. My intention is to manifest images that stretch the imagination, and inspire introspection . . . I hope to enrich and bring happiness to people with my art. - Audrey Grider
