Artist Statement Paolo Masi is an emerging Italian artist and short movies author who was born in 1979 in Chiavari, Italy, and whose strenghts focus on surrealist, pop, abstract and fusion digital art. He has been travelling around Europe and Africa, he speaks fluently French, Spanish, Portuguese and English.
Travelling has trained his way of dealing, conceiving and expressing culturally wise and it reflects time changes, mood and experience in a contemporary as well as cosmoplitan dimensions.
After College he decided to study Cultural Mediation and continue travelling, in 1999 he eventually moved to France, Paris, then in 2001 moved to Spain, Valencia and 2002 in Canary Island. He kept his expression outlet through writing, resulting in his first 'story', script play, called 'Background'; this piece told the story of a young student reaching his mature conscience, in an attempt to reverse a negative businessman stereotype at the end of his career. He also began to write poetries on graphic, such as Oxygen Sparkle , this was the first of several bubbled emotions.
He comments on themes of social awareness as well as universal feelings and emotions. A mixed media story about failing of contemporary moral is an example of social awarness commenting on abortion politics .
The Abstract Collection series depicted fusion and pop art with portraited Italian and International artists, natural and fluid forms are combined to create a composition of curves and brilliant colors, which flow easily and are enhanced by decorative patterns and textures throughout the images. Bright touches serve to bring to life the images, which exude a powerful feeling.
He also uses subjects such as Barack H. Obama's program, and contemporary issues such as What Next and Pressure . His work aims to celebrate a variety of culture trends.
The creative process is relentless and combines painting, drawing, photographing and experimental digital art works, some canvas print works' sides are differently oil or acrylicly hand painted to add deepeer and colourful decoration to the piece as well as hand-signed and a strictly original numbering tracking system adds unique value to his works, instead of numbering some reproductions with a fixed number such as 1/22, 2/22 for example, he uses icons like the 'dice', meaning he will never reproduce more than 6 pieces of that specific work, or like the 'hand' meaning no more than 5 reproductions, etc.
His work, is rich and inspiring, the extensive use of color, pattern and design. He concerns himself with serious issues of society, but is resplendent with affirmations; it deals with harsh realities, but in the final analysis is connected to following personal dreams and overcoming all obstacles, with a challenged and an unstoppable spirit.
Today Paolo resides in the Netherlands, where he performs as author and artist, furthermore he collabortates with online marketing companies as photographer specialising in advertising campaigns and creative event solutions.
