Description Alcatraz Island, commonly referred to as simply Alcatraz or non-locally and theatrically, as The Rock, is a small island located in the middle of San Francisco Bay in California, United States. It served as a lighthouse, then a military fortification, then a military prison, and finally as a federal prison until 1963. It became a national recreation area in 1972 and received landmarking designations in 1976 and 1986.
Lou Ford, Honey Brook, PA Member Since July 2009 Artist Statement
I was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and have lived in Southeastern PA for most of my life.
I've always been into photography - going back to my childhood days with a Kodak Instamatic. Through the years, most of my work has involved filling photo albums with family pictures and documenting family vacations. Only recently, through retirement, have I been able to dedicate more time to developing a style and building a portfolio.
I really enjoy photography. To me it is a way to get out and enjoy and celebrate the beauty of God's creation. As you can see from my galleries, I have a wide range of photographs - flowers and water lilies, cityscapes, travel and landscape photos, photos of rural Pennsylvania around my home, hummingbirds, and digitally altered works. I hope to add even much more variety as we go along.
Thank you for visiting my gallery - I hope you enjoy it. My goal is to develop and improve it in the future. Please let me know if you have any comments or suggestions.
