Edward Obermueller, Morris Plains, NJ Member Since November 2008 Artist Statement I have been a professional oil and watercolorist for 15 years, working mainly on private commission. I studied painting under Wendell Arneson at St. Olaf College. I graduated with a B.A. in art and music from St. Olaf in 1996 and an M.Div. from Concordia Seminary in 2004.
I grew up in the wide open and stark landscape of Wyoming, and I have since lived in Boston, Phoenix, St. Louis, Minnesota, England, and New Jersey. All of these locations continue to influence my landscape painting.
I have always loved color and composition and working with oil and watercolor. When I paint I try to give a sense not only of the scene but of the inner meaning of it. I am interested in many different styles and forms of art, from landscape to abstract, figural to conceptual. I am especially interested in the spiritual and theological dimension of art. My newest exploration of that theme has been a series of labyrinths depicting the figure situated within a zodiacal sigil.
