Mirjam Gremes, Minnesota Member Since July 2008 Artist Statement Mirjam is an award winning artist. Her paintings are in private and corporate collections around the US and Slovenia. She is also an accomplished photographer, judge at art competitions, teaches language classes, translates, sings with a band and works as a creative framer.
Born in a small mountain village in Slovenia, Mirjam had a truly bi-cultural upbringing, raised by her Slovenian mother who is a talented musician, lace maker and operates a small farm with her American born father who lived in Northern Minnesota.
Mirjam used her energy and desire for knowledge to try a number of work and learning experiences. She graduated from Glass Making School where she studied the intricacies of glass, she then continued her education at the Private Collage for Economic professions in Austria, and she also graduated as a fashion designer from the School for Design and Photography in Ljubljana, Slovenia. She has seven years of experience in lens making and also worked as a caterer and an executive assistant. She is currently working at a local gallery and frame shop as a creative framer. While keeping her day job she mastered watercolor techniques under renowned artist Terry Maciej and eventually started to explore the world of oils while she also continued to stay close to her great love of photography.
She also enjoys writing articles for magazines and newspapers, gardening, lace making and traveling which gives her the opportunity to take photographs of numerous places and objects.
