Description Rembrandt lighting used for this shot of an Appletini cocktail, using frosted glass and Granny Smith apples in my dining room....yeah, I drank the Appletini after taking several shots of it. Fun.
Robert Pierson, Dakota Dunes, S.D. Member Since June 2010 Artist Statement I am an attorney, having practiced in many diverse areas of the law over the past twenty-eight years. Before that, I was a teacher at the high school level for nine years. However, over the past ten years my first love has been photogaphy, as is the case with many "baby boomers".
I am self taught concerning my photography techniques, and I try to continually devour any periodicals, books and videos that deal with technique that I can get my hands on. I use a Canon 5D, with L series lenses...most often the 24-105 IS lens or the 70-200 IS 2.8. I do all my editing with Elements 8, and love to create unique slideshows for family and clients using Pro Show Producer and Choice Backgrounds.com. masks and slide styles.
My philosopy concerning photography is simple: capture the world around you from a unique perspective, and then present it in either a realistic style, with little photoshop manipulation, or alternatively, in a more "no holds barred" artistic vision, which may often capitalize on the visual editing and interpretations that Photshop offers. The two schools of photography do not have to conflict with one another in my judgment; the image itself, along with the photographer's objective at the moment, should suggest which creative format to utilize for a given picture. The most important point is that your images should be your gift to those in your life now, as well as to those who will see your work long after you are gone. Photography should be time immemorial, and provide one with a legacy that is not subject to the whims of any fleeting cultural tastes or pressures.
