Ruby Jaffrey, Dallas, TX Member Since May 2009 Artist Statement Born and raised in London, England, Ruby moved to Dallas, Texas in 2002 where she now lives with her husband and three children. Her love for the arts was nurtured at home by her mother, an Urdu lecturer and poet. Ruby herself went on to study English Literature at the University of London's Queen Mary and Westfield College. Her interest in Literature took a different turn as she became increasingly enamored with the aesthetics of written script. Having been taught to read and write Urdu and Arabic at home, her exploration and artistic experimentation with the art of calligraphy took flight. She has been featured in the Dallas Morning News and her work was part of an international exhibition of Islamic Art at the LuminArte Gallery in the Dallas Arts District in 2015. She continues to work with the Islamic Art Revival Series in an effort to promote an appreciation of Islamic and Cultural Arts with an emphasis on bringing a modern edge to the classic and timeless beauty of the ancient scripts. With a keen eye for contemporary palettes and textures, Ruby's design philosophy is centered upon keeping her art current and stylistically relatable across cultures and generations. Her work has been exhibited in London, Washington DC, Atlanta, Austin, Houston and Dallas.
