Description The Archangel Michael is a king of angels, considered by the Coptic people (orthodox Christians) of Egypt to be the protector of the Nile River. He carries a sword of protection, of discernment to remove blocks and negativity. His role is to increase one's feelings of safety and confidence; emotional and physical healing. In my painting of him his sword is a green living bough; the message in this image is the living energy of renewal, of faith, ever growing, ever abundant and alive, if we are open to receive such assistance by Michael. The snake, a symbol of the healing arts is entwined in his sword of protection. Notice also the turquoise image of the lotus pod in the upper right hand corner, the seed is the promise of the flower yet to unfold. His other hand is open in a gesture of giving. The original painting is made upon a support of collage and silk screened papers. The body of Michael is made up of torn papers glued together in the collage upon stretched canvas. For me this represents the coming together of wounds, of healing. Michael himself is made of a healed body and soul. He offers this to all who will call on him for assistance and blessing. The energy of the Archangel Michael is the power of life able to flow, sustain and protect.
