Description I chose the poinsettias in the front in memory of my grandma who lived her whole life in Athens Greece. Every time I travel to Greece the Acropolis is the main place I visit. I guess it wakes up my Greek art instinct to wake and to create artwork that I am happy with.
Alex Alexakis, Orlando Member Since January 2008 Artist Statement Alex Alexakis was born in Athens, Greece in 1984. He grew up in Nea Erythrea with his family and grandparents. His grandparents came from Asia Minor and would always tell him stories of their roots and of WWII, this helped shape the young artist and also led him to the love of the Rebetiko music and also the love for the bouzouki which he started playing at the age of 7.
In his teens, confused from all the mixed cultural stimuli he was receiving from home and sur-roundings, he started expressing his passion for art through graffiti and the Hip Hop culture. In 1999, Alex moved to the U.S.A with his family. He was exposed to yet another totally different culture and environment. He missed Greece and craved the Greek culture and the only way to
come close and express his feelings was to start painting again. He painted many wall sized paintings of the Greek Islands.
He attended Ringling School of Art and Design, one of the best Art Schools in the U.S., where he attained his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Illustration. He has completed design work for several companies such as: Universal Studios, Dollywood, GM, and NBC. Currently he lives in Orlando, Florida working for an Interior Design firm as the Head of the Art Department creating artwork and architectural renderings for high end hotels and restaurants. Alex is also dedicated to his Blog, in which he adds all his new work and step by step processes of his artwork; there one can leave comments and critiques which are always welcome as he feels all insight helps him better his artwork
