Description I took an art class in college and there were only three of us plus the professor. A couple from New York was opening up a bagel shop nearby and somehow got in touch with our professor about it; they wanted the theme to be the four seasons and somehow it was deduced that this meant nature scenes as opposed to seasonal clothing or whatever. And for our mutual convenience it was decided that rather than have a mural directly painted onto the walls of the shop we would just paint on big 4x6 slabs of plywood. So anyway, we each took a season and I started with spring and I was the only one who ever really finished, so they just bought mine and asked me to paint more, so I painted this one and the lily pads one, but I put so much time into it that what they were offering me rather upset me, and in addition whatever I would be paid, my professor took a big chunk out of it as commission. So I kept it and it is also now sitting in my video game-playing, wakeboarding friend's basement. Oh, and for a while I used it while painting other stuff, so I wouldn't get paint on the floor, and also under my futon mattress to keep the futon frame from sagging. But this is how it looked originally.
Iris Liu, Seattle Member Since June 2007 Artist Statement Hello! My story is that my parents both went to art school and they never let me consider that as an option. But now I'm all grown up, so I can do whatever I want, except I can't afford art school! It's ok. I spent my money on other experiences. At the moment I am in Seattle, come visit! Nothing else to report.
