DescriptionWe have many trees on our property. One of which is this huge cedar tree. When we first moved here, many years ago, I thought, 'That would be the 'perfect' tree to string lights on at Christmastime for a lovely outdoor Christmas Tree.' The only glitch in this plan was the size of the tree. It stood, then, about 20 feet tall and the diameter of this tree...well, you could fit a small village in the circumference! Since my husband refused to build a scaffold to accomplish my dream of a beautiful lawn holiday tree, it has to this day remained holiday decor-less. But, that's okay...nature has decorated it for me with these gorgeous blue berries!COPYRIGHT REGISTERED @ MyFreeCopyright~~ALL RIGHTS RESERVED~~MCN:CHRB4-1BDYK-UU741
Betty Northcutt, Beckville, Texas Member Since November 2010 Artist Statement “Art washes from the soul the dust of everyday life.” ~ Pablo Picasso
This statement from Picasso sums up what photography does for me. Often in my day-to-day life, I forget about the beautiful things of this world. But, in pausing to photograph a glorious sunset or capture a reflection in water, I stop long enough to “dust” my soul of the everyday life and absorb the peace and serenity which surrounds me.
In my photographic art you will find an underlying theme of stillness - a quiet serenity - sprinkled with a hint of nostalgia. I find a spiritual joy in capturing the colors of nature’s palette; its hues blended by natural light. In an abandoned building, I revel in an imagined history and marvel at the bare essentials of its structure. I delight in the creation of a still life that can evoke emotion.
It is my intent to offer images which “dust” the soul. I can only hope that the peace and serenity I found while capturing these images will extend to others.
