Arturo Lopez Castel, Valencia Member Since April 2008 Artist Statement I was born in Barcelona, Spain. My full-time job is as a scientist (molecular geneticist) but one of my passions is photography and I say one because all of us should have a lot of passions in our lives..." I started taking photography more seriously since 2003 when I got my first SLR camera. I took part in two annual courses in AFOTMIR (Photography Group in Montcada I Reixac, Spain -www.afmontcada.org-), in my opinion one of the best groups in this field in Spain. It is there that I learned all the basic, and not-so-basic, ways to get photographs. It is combined with my own training, self-teaching and, of course, hours and hours of shooting. Part of my work is available at www.flickr.com/photos/alopezc/. I love to shoot landscapes and cities, but all we always have a favourite place or person...to spend hours and hours photographing it. Mine is "El Maestrazgo", a little region of Spain where I spent all my summer holidays. The landscapes there are the most incredible I have seen. When I lived in Spain, I always took a short trip there whenever I had a few days to spare. One of my future photo-projects includes a book with my best photos of that region. I think the right words to describe it are "old summer’s love".
