Description Built in Hawi on the Kohala Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii in 1911-1915, this was originally designed as a hotel. The building has a long history. Within a decade it had fallen into disrepair and bankruptcy and, in 1926 it was sold to the Takada family and was operated as a dry goods and grocery store for over 65 years. In 1991, the Takadas built a new store down the road and today this building is a thriving restaurant. Original photo.
