Description looking through the doorway of on of the old telephone rooms at Battery Mishler, Old Fort Stevens, near Hammond, Oregon, an upturned mason jar and a large tin can can be seen in the old lantern well. A metal ladder and a wooden stick from either a broom or a mop peek out from behind the entrance. Because of the fire several decades ago there was not anything else to be seen in the room besides some holes in the distressed concrete walls that used to lead telephone wires to one of those old switchboards that telephone operators used to plug things into to connect calls.
