John Pierce, Brewster, Cape Cod Member Since August 2009 Artist Statement John Pierce lives on Cape Cod and has a strong appreciation for the sea and the wondrous effect that colors produce as light reflects off it. Working mainly in acrylics, painting seascapes of the Cape and New England, Pierce has developed a deep understanding of his unique surroundings and the color relationship between landscape, water and sky and an how they interact – naturally. Mr. Pierces’ canvas is always animated with color as is the viewers’ imagination.
The artist pays tribute by acknowledging a debt to Claude Monet, Comille Pissarro, Alfred Sisley, and other artists of the impressionist style who have helped shape his own. Mr. Pierce, who is mostly a self-taught artist and has developed his own technique and artistic identity says: “I enjoy the way water reflects the sky and the coast, and the way it mirrors the shapes of objects on it’s surface, intensifying their light. It sets a mood or evokes an emotion which I try to portray in my work.”
