Description Black Mountain has its name because of the density of foliage compared to the surrounding area. This poster is based on a painting completed shortly after a season of bush fires.
Richard Baldwin, Canberra Member Since January 2012 Artist Statement Richard Baldwin began painting at age 3. His father had dressed him in order to take him off to the hospital for his first sighting of his new born brothers. Richard had “other ideas”, he grabbed the black paint from his father’s shed and used the enamel to complete an expressive piece on his grandparents out house in outback Australia. Richard has developed a fascination with the intense light in the Australian Landscape. From a Neurological perspective, Richard is photo-sensitive and responds to flashing lights. He has become very aware of the unique relationship between light and landscape in Australia.
