Pat Burns, Gladwyne, Pennsylvania Member Since June 2011 Artist Statement I have drawn and painted most of my life, working in various media. In the past few years I have concentrated on the abstract. Abstraction gives me room to dream and I hope my paintings will affect the viewer in that way too.
I'm often asked about what I am looking at when I paint and how I am inspired. The answer is not very clear because I usually don't look at anything except the canvas and the paint. I paint purely from the passion of the paint, the moment and my guts. Certainly I am influenced by other painters, among them are: De Kooning, Diebenkorn, Joan Mitchell, Matisse, Gustavo Romero and so many others.
I have traveled through much of the world, Southeast Asia, Africa, Europe, India, the United States and Central America as both a film maker and an artist. My paintings are influenced by the cultures of the people I've met and those around me as well. My personal emotions are in each painting and I can tell you what I was feeling in each one. They are never the same.
