Description The Bofors 40 mm gun, often referred to simply as the Bofors gun, is an anti-aircraft multi-purpose automatic cannon designed in the 1930s by the Swedish arms manufacturer AB Bofors. It was one of the most popular medium-weight anti-aircraft systems during World War II, used by most of the western Allies as well as by the Axis powers. The cannon remains in service as of 2013, for instance as main armament in the CV 90, making it both one of the longest-serving artillery pieces of all time as well as most wide spread. The USS Bowfin has one Bofors gun on its deck for above water operations. In 1987, the USS Bowfin was dry-docked in preparation for her role in the ABC Circle Films miniseries, War and Remembrance. She would portray three different submarines in the miniseries. It has also appeared in numerous television productions for PBS, the History, and the National Geographic Channels, as well as at least three episodes of the ABC series Lost. She was dry-docked again in 2004 with major hull work, and returned to her current mooring. The waterfront memorial stands in tribute to the fifty-two U.S. submarines and more than 3,500 submariners who made the ultimate sacrifice for their nation during World War II. The fifty-two monuments in the memorial chronicle the wartime career of each of the lost submarines and list the names of the officers and enlisted men who are 'on eternal patrol' with their vessels. - Wikki
Jon Burch, Loveland, Colorado Member Since November 2012 Artist Statement My first camera was a 35mm Yashica, acquired by trading an ancient Royal typewriter to a fellow college student who was desperate to finish a term paper. It was a long time ago and that camera was my passport to an art that has fascinated me ever since.
I owned a professional studio in central Kansas for 20 years until I sold the business and moved to Colorado. Part of the studio’s early success came from introducing outdoor portraiture using controlled lighting techniques that my clients were used to seeing only in studio-produced portraits.
In addition to portraits of all types, business and corporate, family, glamour, bridal, and high school seniors, the studio’s operations included a video recording studio and an on-site production lab that produced award-winning, heritage-quality color portraits.
Photography is all about using light to capture the emotion and the beauty of a fleeting moment. Discover the difference; let someone who knows how to use light create a vibrant portrait that reflects you and your world.
