Lorraine Klotz, san diego, ca Member Since July 2009 Artist Statement A baby boomer, I was born in Columbus, Ohio but grew up in the San Fernando Valley in California. Today I live in Ocean Beach, San Diego. My art education includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of California in Santa Barbara as well as studies at Long Beach State University Ca, and UCLA.
While pursuing status as an artist, I worked in the commercial world creating a Display Art business painting large reproductions of album covers for the music industry displayed inside and outside Hollywood music stores. Later I moved to Palm Springs where I was hired as the lead artist at an outdoor advertising company painting gigantic 18' x 40' billboards. Through these positions and word of mouth I've been primarily a commissioned artist for private collectors and businesses.
My paintings are influenced and inspired by travels throughout Europe, Mexico, Central and South America and more recently, the Caribbean. I've always had an obsession with exotic, tropical landscapes and my travels have had a huge effect on the subject matter, vibrancy and richness of color in my paintings. It is no surprise then that Gauguin is my favorite artist!
