Description The over-winter location for thousands of Sandhill Cranes. This is in southern New Mexico near Socorro. The dawn spectacle of these birds waking and marching through shallow roosting ponds toward the sunrise is quite enchanting. Dress warm is my advice and have spare batteries with.
Paul Davies, Colorado Springs Member Since September 2008 Artist Statement Originally from Wales in the U.K. and now settled in the U.S.A. for the past 11 years in 'Colourful Colorado' with wife Kelly and our daughter Rio. The landscape of the South West has really kept up my interest in hitting the road periodically and taking photographs. One of my all time favourite venues is Bosque del Apache in southern New Mexico for the annual sandhill crane migration.
My day job is in the landcare industry as a professionally qualified turf manager and former golf course superintendent.
I have had an interest in photography for many years and have recently switched to digital from medium format. Wow! Why didn't I do that years ago? Though I will say, I cannot part with my Pentax 67!
I recently sold all of my equipment accrued over the last 20 years, including my cumbersome and complex view camera, Pentax 645 and Pentax 35mm, and switched to a Canon 40D and a variety of their wonderful lenses from 16mm to 500mm.
I have never sold any of my photographs until wandering into this site. The reason being is that I have recently started using an Epson Pro 3800 printer, and most everyone who has seen my collection of 16 x 20" prints asks if I sell them, or say I should do so. So here you go! I hope you enjoy what you see.
