Description Original oil created for 'Sister Connection' a non-profit organization that reaches out to the widows and orphans of Burundi, Africa.Denise Vibbert Patch, the co-founder of Sister Connection, is a close friend of mine as are her parents. The Vibbert family spent many years in Burundi as missionaries, and continue to do short term work there. (The Vibbert children babysat for my children over the years. After I was divorced and with the struggles of being a single parent, Denise felt I could capture this woman's expression, which really was a compliment to my work and capabilities, I was honored to be asked to do this piece! )This painting is of a widow with her young baby. The boldly colorful clothing contrast starkly with the intense expression on the widow's face. The haunting eyes and her beauty mesmerized me. It was a great honor to be selected to paint this piece. The loss of my mother when I was a teenager has lead me on a journey in pursuit of expression via art and to develop my art primarily through painting with oils. I created this painting due to her love of cardinals and this transformed quickly almost with a "guiding hand'. I knew then that I was blessed with her wishes for me to continue on this journey into the world of art. My father, who was, in his own right, a talented artist and a modeler in the automotive industry, is where I can trace my artistic talents.
