Thomas Henneman, Batavia, Illinois Member Since November 2009 Artist Statement Welcome to the Rustic Roads Photography Store page at ImageKind!
Rustic Roads Photography is my primary venue for displaying my work. This is the Store for Rustic Roads. Please feel free to visit Rustic Roads Photography at www.rusticroadsphotography.com. A little about myself - I'm a student, studying for a degree in Photography at the College of DuPage in Glenn Ellyn, Illinois, USA. I currently live in Batavia, Illinois - however, my home town is Eau Claire, Wisconsin. I've moved around quite a bit in all these years, spending some time in New Orleans, California (Bay Area), Oregon (Cottage Grove and Eugene), Washington State (Seattle) and Alaska (Homer and Fairbanks). I spent twelve years in New Mexico (Albuquerque), moving to Batavia about three years ago to be with my girlfriend.
I have been taking photographs seriously for four years, and VERY seriously for the last year. I've had some success, publishing photos in Sunset Magazine and Lakeland Boating recently, and I am also having four of my photos included in the Batavia Mainstreet calender for 2010.
Why Rustic Roads? Well, I enjoy hiking, camping, backpacking and bicycling; the outdoors in general. I've also been influenced by Kerouac's "On the Road", Steinbeck's "Travels with Charley", William Least Heat Moon's "Blue Highways" and the photographer Robert Frank, a cohort of Kerouac's who spent a year on the road in the early fifties taking photographs, couldn't get an American firm to publish his photographs. So, the idea of the road looms large in my mind. As for rustic, well that's about my favorite word. I like rustic. County lane = rustic. Freeway does not = rustic. Rustic, beyond the beaten path, woodsy, "out-back", etc. You get it.
Thus far my interests have been primarily landscape and architectural photography. As time goes on I hope to develop more of my own style - I have progressed much in the last year and hope to continue to grow in the future!
