Join me on the blog every Friday for the next installment of "Carbon Footprints", the weekly examination of my trash.

Drawn in fragile charcoal, all these items are discards from my own life.

And like any archeological exhibition, each piece has been examined, catalogued and presented for your interpretation.

Leave a comment to
"Name That Sketch" and help me tell the story.

Much of my recent still life drawing uses the stuff of everyday life. I want to share the delight I take in these mundane household objects with the hope that we can see our modern world in a fresh light. Beauty which we can appreciate every day will touch us more often and I believe that happiness lies in contentment with these humble pleasures rather than in the pursuit of rarer delights...

...although I wouldn't say "No" to a free trip to Hawaii

Before Fall 2001, my only real experience of colored pencil art had been the long weeks I spent obsessing over a kid's coloring book... when I should have been obsessing over the final exams for my Classics Degree. But now, a decade (or so...) later, I'm beginning to think maybe I'd been onto something all those years ago.

This year I have been having great fun studying oil painting. The rich, creamy paint is such a joy to work with, and I have to rely on my dog's insistence on snacktime to drag me from the easel.
