Tina Barnes, Roseville, CA Member Since May 2010 Artist Statement A Northern California native, I was born in 1982 in the San Francisco Bay Area, but have spent the majority of my life between the Sacramento Valley and Sierra Nevada Mountains.
I typically use a mix of media and techniques including, but not limited to: acrylic, oil, charcoal, graphite, watercolor, sharpie, photography, calligraphy, collage, and (still my personal favorite) finger painting.
I can best describe my artistic style as simplified abstract realism. My life in many ways has been a meditation on the path to simplicity, including the acknowledgment and acceptance of the need to be true to oneself to achieve it. I see both the acts of creating and enjoying any type of art as wonderful ways for that to manifest. That is why I feel people are so drawn to artistic expression.
Music highly influences my drawing and painting. Any time I work, I pick an album that fits my mood... then put it on repeat until I'm done. I consider music to be one of the most significant inspirations in my life, second only to my son, Preston. My hard drive is graced by a massive and eclectic mix of music, but bands whose albums have nearly imprinted themselves into my CD player include: Radiohead, Dredg, the Police, The Cure, Modest Mouse, Flogging Molly, Circa Survive, Gorillaz, Portishead, Putumayo World Music, and Led Zeppelin.
