Description“Deep beneath the bustle of London lie the original Cabinet War Rooms – today part of the Churchill War Rooms – which sheltered the people at the heart of Britain’s wartime government during the Blitz. In the Map Room, the informational hub of the entire site, everything has remained exactly as it was when the lights were finally switched off on 16 August 1945. The wartime maps cover the walls, and the thousands of tiny pinholes dot the progress of Allied ships across the Convoy Map.”
Victoria Hawkins, Houston Member Since January 2012 Artist Statement I am Victoria Hawkins. I became a regional flight attendant at the beginning of 2011. Before becoming a flight attendant, I had barely stepped outside of my home state of Texas. Thanks to the benefits that my job affords me, I am able to fly standby to nearly any destination in the world for free.
In the last year, I have traversed three continents, frequently as a solo female traveller. My husband works for weeks at a time on oil rigs, so every week I fly to visit him wherever his rig may be. Between my job, visiting my husband, and making time to see the world, I am at an airport just about every day. I spend at least five nights a week living in hotels.
Through my blog at http://Victoria-Hawkins.com/ I will share the travel skills that I have learned by going instantly from homebody to frequent flier. I will also discuss ways to increase safety and comfort for women travelling solo. I studied fine arts in college and I am currently finishing degrees in English and Journalism, with the intent of being a professional travel writer and photographer.
