Description Layers of circles in a variety of cheerful bright color peering behind a wall of equally colorful squares. As a child my favorite toy was the largest box of crayons, the one with the sharpener in the back. I relished that new crayon smell, I loved them! So many new colors to play with, all those endless artistic possibilities, a truly joyful memory. Now a days I use more professional tools but that childlike wonder has never faded. This series of work is a celebration of that lifelong love of color and possibility.
Shawna Rowe Member Since July 2012 Artist Statement I grew up in a creative family who loved photography, music, art and random hiking adventures. That helped me to develop a love for nature and artistic expression early on. I've never limited myself to one particular medium but I do favor graphic shapes, bold colors and whimsical style. Whatever the medium, I try to include some or all of those elements in my work.
My family has always been a big inspiration and they feature in a series of satirical cartoons that I've done just for fun over the years. Each year I make a new cartoon to celebrate each of my daughter's birthdays. I've also made my own greeting cards for family members over the years.
Lately, I've been making detailed magazine collages. Each one is made of 100% recycled paper cut into tiny shapes and carefully applied much like paint onto canvas. It's an art-form that requires a lot of time and patience but I love this unusual way of creating. Thank you for visiting my gallery!
