Matt Krack, Indianapolis, IN Member Since January 2011 Artist Statement Matt Krack Born: 1979 Evansville, IN Majored in Studio Art with a Graphic Design emphasis at the University of Southern Indiana
I’m a painter, a graphic designer, a sculptor, a photographer. While I explore all of these art forms individually, my passion is drawing from all of these areas to create a cohesive piece.
I began creating art extensively in middle school, selling my pen-on-ruled-paper mazes and illustrations to classmates for ten cents each, charging up to a quarter for the “cooler ones.” I work to push my skills and boundaries with new techniques and styles, from newer and more involved materials and media to finding new ways to design and hang pieces -- integrating form and function to create a deeper and more complex artistic whole.
I gain inspiration from the thoughts, colors, and shapes around me, using my daily experiences rather than past artworks and artistic styles. I strive for an original work that gives the viewer insight into my view of the world. Artwork that is true to the artist’s own sense of self stands out in a world of mass produced art.
I let the media mix and expand through layering -- colors blending through light, shapes transforming through the play of pigments, elements expanding to create deeper experiences. Viewers are rewarded for looking deeper or pay attention to all aspects of the work. Although some viewers may find abstract works “confusing”, the act of searching for the hidden meanings, of experiencing all that the artwork has to offer is what allows people to connect with the art on a multi-dimensional level.
About the Artist: My dad is a firefighter and I wanted to be one until I was 6, then I changed my mind to professional athlete. I’m kind of a shoe whore. And finally, 1979 by The Smashing Pumpkins is my favorite song.
