DescriptionThis was the first oil painting I did. It is based on a double-exposed photograph taken by my friend Tami Elaine (see her work at http://tamielaine.com/index.html). It is an exploration of layering of thoughts, impressions and interpretation. There are four faces in this painting, some obvious, some not.
Rebekah McGrady, Bristol, Tn Member Since July 2007 Artist Statement My art and photography is an exploration of what fascinates and interests me, as well as a quest to find meaning in the images I create. While I approach each new painting or digital piece with some idea of what I’m going to do, I mostly leave the specifics to intuition to allow myself to learn as I go and to discover new things about how I see the world. I experiment with the piece and see what happens… and I suppose that leads to my motives for making art. The easiest way to explain it is that art is a part of who I am and it is through my art that I explore different aspects of myself and how I perceive the world.
My more recent work is an exploration and expression of Balances – balances between chaos and order, vagueness and detail, reality and fantasy. I am particularly fond of working in paint and digital mediums and often use one to create another – some paintings are based on digital work and images of paintings are worked into some of the digital art. The process is somewhat random and the results are often vague, so while much of my art is obviously a depiction of something, one can’t quite be sure of what.
