Description Just before sunrise two Double-crested Cormorants scout Lake Tarpon on the west coast of Florida, where they make their home and fish for food daily. I often see these interesting birds diving for fish and drying their feathers in the air after they come out of the water. They hold their wings out away from their bodies so the air can circulate through their feathers. Cormorants were once a threatened specie, but since DDT had been banned, their numbers have increased markedly - especially in recent years. Years ago I had not seen as many as I do nowadays.

Matthew Schwartz (AKA Spadecaller) is a grateful survivor who conveys his convictions and serenity through visual art, poetry, and video.
He was trained in traditional oil techniques as a child and later attended The School of Visual Arts in New York City (1970-71). During the 70's up until the late 80's he exhibited acrylic and oils in New York, and presently resides on the west coast of Florida.
Since the advent of image editing software, he has turned more to creative digital hand painted images and photos striving to fuse these into an art form worthy of the distinction traditional painters deserve.
