Artist Statement I grew up in Oberlin, Ohio, and pursued a degree in African Art Aesthetics at Amherst College, in New England. Why did I become a painter? I taught myself to paint on a computer about 20 years ago. I thought digital was the future of art and I wanted to work with the newest, most quiet tools to privately experiment. It's been my impression that art has been nearly the same for hundreds of years and few things done today really say anything about today as a unique time in our epoch. All the particular distinct qualities and circumstances about living in today's times—embedded with our future visions—are nearly inconceivable. These important aspects of today become lost times, undocumented in our artwork—lost chances to record our era's unique flavors, mindsets and hopes. I think art done today ought to say something about today—more documentary/contemporary. Living in today's times, I want to record and interpret the particular distinctions I see and feel and think. That's why I taught myself to paint and have been using a Wacom tablet all this time on various platforms. I was a best emerging artist award winner in 2008's Chicago Art Open. In 2009 I won a First Prize in an international poster design contest organized by The Olympia F.U.N. Co-op.

I hope you enjoy my works shown here exclusively at Imagekind.
