Description This piece represents many of the amazing things about our recent stay at Decanter Bay in Banks Peninsula. The amazing pinnacle type rock formations at the head of the bay. The unusually peaceful waves when we were out kayaking beyond the heads. The morning mists and the evening sunsets.
Phil Styler, New Zealand Member Since June 2012 Artist Statement I love abstraction and photo manipulation because they create a sense of intrigue and sometimes challenge our thinking.
The inspiration and opportunities come from the diverse and awe-inspiring beauty of the natural landscapes and features around me. The challenge is to ensure every work evolves from my own images and ideas. I have an immense preference for macros and landscapes. Macros provide an element of surprise and the landscapes are just another reason why it is "great to be walking this earth". I would describe my work as "... a wee bit lost, but a lot of fun".
The artworks I enjoy the most are the ones where each person sees something different each time they look at the artwork.
The majority of my abstracts have been morphed from my own photos. A minority are just outright abstractions from scratch. I do sometimes wonder why I'm abstracting some of my best photos, without ever showcasing the photo itself to anyone else.
