Description Looking out from inside the doorway of an ancient Mayan temple, this view offers an interesting view of the past. Deep shadows created with pen & ink frame the illuminated center of the picture colored in with watercolor and colored pencil. This is the third in a series of four pieces I did based on my trip to the Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza, Yucatan.
William Olson, Owatonna Member Since August 2009 Artist Statement I am a farm boy from southern Minnesota and have been drawing since I was five years old.
Fantasy and Comic Book art are by far my most favorite things to draw, although I also do art from many other genres such as western, wildlife, african safari, architectural, and portraits. Pen and Ink is my favorite medium, but I also do a lot of work with graphite, colored pencil, and watercolor.
I am a graduate of the Commercial Art and Technical Drawing program at South Central College in Mankato, Minnesota. I showcase my work in at least a half dozen shows and competitions each summer where I have won numerous prizes and awards over the last 14 years. I have work on display and for sale year around at the Austin Area Art Center, in Austin, MN, where I am an active member as well as President of their Board of Directors.
Art has been a lifelong pleasure for me and will continue to be so as long as I am able to find inpiration in life. Fortunately, my imagination is endless, so that should be a very long time.
