William Dorée, Chicago Member Since October 2013 Artist Statement On my 13th birthday I received a Pentax SLR camera, and my love for photography began. I spent the entire summer taking black and white photographs of a variety of subjects. Soon after, I set up a darkroom under the stairs of my parent’s home. There, I was able to bring my art to life. It was fascinating.
During my high school years, I continued to study photography and experiment with my camera. I explored many different lighting techniques, from strobe light in complete darkness to filtered sunshine in the forest. Each and every experiment yielded a very unique image.
I had the opportunity to attend Columbia College in Chicago, Illinois where I studied Television Production and minored in Photography. My photography assignments encouraged me to explore the beautiful city of Chicago and its varied subjects. Click after click, I captured the emotions and beauty of the city’s people, architecture, and green spaces. That was the time when the artist in me was awakened.
Today, many years later, after retiring from the hustle and bustle of the business world, my love of photography and creating beautiful images has been reborn. My camera and I have been busy capturing the beauty and splendor of nature and the emotions these images evoke. From the long ago darkroom under the stairs to the digital photography of today, I continue to bring my art to life.
I am an artist, who captures images…in a different light.
