Chris Goodheart, las cruces, nm Member Since September 2009 Artist Statement I am native to this land. living most of my life in southern New Mexico. Art has always been an avenue of self expression in my life. At an early age, I was fascinated with drawing and painting. I spent much of my time combing through magazines and books, copying anything that was of interest to me. This continued until my late teens, but youth took over and my art gradually faded into a distant memory. I still had the yearning to do art; I knew that some day I would return to it again. Time passed, and not til my thirtieth birthday did I seriously decided to renew my love for the art I missed. I began refocusing, taking several drawing classes at a local junior college. This is were I met my mentor, a great teacher, who encouraged and regenerated my love for art that had been missing for so long. With his encouragement, I return back to school and attended New Mexico State University. I recieved my my BFA in 2000, emphasizing on painting and printmaking(acid etching).
My art focuses on personal experiences, intergrating messages easily and not so easily dicerned. I show the land, people, and structures of my world, hoping to capture abit of thier magic and truth that are so easily taken for granted each day in our fast-paced world. My goal, to translate the unique qualities and diversities of life in such away as to make my viewers come away with new avenues of seeing their own world.
