Like many of us, I have been creating since I could hold a crayon. Art has been my lifeboat, my refuge, and my guiding light.
I believe all arts are amazing tools for self-expression, self-awareness, and healing. I have worked in the arts in various capacities for over 15 years: teaching, public art, professional artist, graphic design, and non-profit arts administration. I received my BA in Fine Art (studio focus) from the University of Colorado, Denver in 2001, magna cum laude. I have participated in a variety of collaborative art projects, artist residencies, workshops, and exhibitions.
I have worked in an array of media, from sculpture, to photography, to performance, video, and installation art, but my heart and soul remain in painting.
My current visual work focuses on art as a sacred practice, as a tool for healing, and as a process of self-discovery.
For me, art is a meditation on my experiences: being awed by the mystery of life, being fully present for both the ecstasy and the pain, accepting and embracing the totality of life while seeking to remain centered in peace and love amidst the chaos and suffering.
My artwork features dream-inspired images depicting the interplay of the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual worlds each of us inhabit individually and collectively. My work weaves together an eclectic tapestry of multi-cultural, multi-faith images, symbols, and icons that intend to stimulate the intellect, rouse the emotions, and stir the soul.
My desire is to utilize the arts to awaken the divine, dormant potential in myself and others in hope that we may heal ourselves and our amazing world with love, compassion, and grace. My work is the physical, outward expression of a personal prayer for global healing and return to a state of pristine wholeness and vibrant health. I believe that creative expression at its best is a form of radical devotion and service to oneself, to humanity, to our planetary home – Mama Earth, and to the divine, creative life force that moves through all.
