Michael Derry, West Hollywood Member Since June 2008 Artist Statement Michael started drawing before he can remember and won his first art contest in kindergarten at the age of 5. It was for a fire prevention poster. The medium was Crayola and if you want to see it, you'll have to ask his mother.
Since then, he graduated from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb with a BFA in Illustration. His work includes character design and animation for commercials, TV, and the net, including the seven-part, animated parody "The DiCaprio Code" for Movies.com, and commercial and editorial illustration. Since 1998 he has been writing and drawing the comic strip "Troy", which has appeared in print and on the web throughout the US, Canada, the UK, South Africa, parts of South America, and Australia. He is currently developing “Troy” as an animated short.
In the summer of 2008, he had his first solo art show, "Groovy, Silly, Sexy, Cute," at Grace Ellay in Los Angeles. “Groovy…” included several pieces featuring the characters of Troy, his voluptuous “Derry Products” girls, as well as several other new illustrations and paintings.
He is currently a graphic artist at DaVita, a health care company, where he does graphic design, illustration, and interactive, online, training modules.
