Gini Wahlen Member Since June 2010 Artist Statement Gini Wahlen is a native of Kansas City, Missouri, where she has spent the majority of her life. She very much enjoys the people and their honest Midwest values, and this love of people and nature and it's splendor comes to life in her paintings. A professional, self-taught artist, she enjoys all mediums, especially acrylics and oils. Private collectors hold her artwork, sketches and portraiture throughout the US.
She has loved drawing for as long as she can remember, having started out with pencils and gradually making the transition to charcoal and pastels. When she discovered acrylics and oils every medium paled in comparison and changed her artistic life forever. Her mastery of light and contrast helps her bring common images to life.
What makes her artistry truly unique is her ability to capture the character, emotion and essence of her subjects. She believes the the human face is a window to the soul and her mastery of expression and the human eye give her the unsurpassed ability to breathe life into her portraits, a compelling aspect that sets her work apart from the other contemporary artists.
The mother of three grown daughters and six grandchildren, her current specialties include commissioned portraits (which may be from photos), still life and a variety of other subjects and styles. Her fervent wish is that you enjoy her creations as much as she has enjoyed painting them.
