Before the Gunfight
Summer, not a single soul stirring, At least that can be seen. The sun is shining and there is no wind, But the stillness the unnatural stillness Is uncanny on a Sunday morn.
There should be people in their finery All dressed for church, parasols shading Pale skin, bowler hats topping trimmed And slicked down hair on all the men. But theres no one out the windowpanes.
Perhaps we always knew this was coming, In our unconscious lives. A wave of unseen warning threaded, Mind to mind, that keeps us safe inside This unnatural, quiet, sunny Sunday morn. ~ 2010 RC deWinter
