Vivi-Mari Carpelan, Hanko Member Since December 2008 Artist Statement Since the early 90's I have specialized in symbolic artwork. Some of it has been rather esoteric or metaphysical, but always dreamlike and read more or less the way dreams are interpreted. There is a certain ambiguity about them since I try and cover many of the mixed emotions and experiences one has as a human being. Mine is a spiritual journey but I am interested in exploring this level of existance and not any spiritual realms. There is often some sense of alienation, solitude and vulnerability in my images, but also one of hope and inner strength. Some of my stuff is inspirational, some is critical, all depending on my current state of mind and reflections on life. Since about 2000 I have not been able to draw well due to a spinal and muscular condition so I've been doing collages instead. You can read more on my website! I also sell abstract photography and you can see more about my photography on my own website, as well as on Flickr. My origin is Finnish-Swedish. Thank you so much for your interest!
