This particular afternoon I was sitting, having some quiet to myself. I was looking out at the ocean, when I realized that this tree branch was so close to me I could reach out and touch it. Well the branch's shape just intrigued me. So I thought I paint it juxtaposed against the immensity of the ocean scene.

Makiki's Impressions of the Heart
My name is Mary Elizabeth "Makiki" Fallon. The word impress has many definitions. I started out as a woodcarver in 1972 doing bas relief, which is carving (impressing) a scene or an object into wood. Since then, I continued to use my heart and my art to communicate my impressions of the world around me.
Presently, I live full-time on the west side of the Big Island of Hawai'i in Kailua-Kona. My interest in painting started at an early age. I created my first painting at nine, I adopted the name “Makiki” then. Throughout my early adult years, I worked in many crafts and also did bas-relief woodcarving.
Most of Mary’s work, whether it is acrylic or oil paintings, watercolor, lithograph or etchings, spring from a need to put visual form to the metaphors she sees around her. Many of her works possess varying levels of symbolism. In a world that has stripped itself of the rich symbolic meaning of the past, Mary feels the void acutely and tries through her art to re-establish the richness of symbolism, metaphors and the poetic resonance that vibrates around us.
My current website address is www.MakikisImpressions.com, though it will take me awhile to put up most of my images for sale on imagekind. So if you see one you like on my website and it's not yet on imagekind, please email me and I'll see what I can do.
