Description Medusa Abstract FaceUnder Cover A river slowly licks the harsh edges off a rock to produce a smooth polished stone. A black plume from a violent volcano eventually turns back to blue. In the course of time, all is changed: the young to old, the night to day. All we have around us: we owe to generations gone past. Names and faces unknown, but unique traces still left behind. A shell becomes sand, but still tells a story of a long ago sea. So we must be mindful of our effect: whether it be good and fertilize life itself, or pollutes with evil those to come. For what lies ahead just needs to be uncovered.
Mike Russell, Bergenfield, NJ Member Since March 2009 Artist Statement Art holds no answers only questions. By this credo Mike Russell is out to prove "The world is only bound by ones inability to dream. "Mike believes his art is a mere portal to questions unanswered. He hopes to stir up those unresolved questions in all of us.
Mike attended the University of Utah and has gone on to take classes at the School of Visual Arts, as well as the Society of Illustrators. He believes however that his real education has come through life's experience and his open mind. He was once told his techniques with color pencil was all wrong. That was all it took for him to actively convince himself and others otherwise.
Mike moved to Brooklyn New York in 1990 with a two year plan. Nineteen years later Mike is still in the New York area living in New Jersey. He has won numerous awards from art competitions such as the Artist Magazine, Society of Illustrators, and the Color Pencil Society of America. He has worked for The Museum of Natural History making dioramas and as a Comp artist making props for TV commercials and photo shoots. Mike's greatest achievement is being the father of two full spirited boys.
