Description Drawn by four-year old autistic artist, Kai Ovalle. He drew this while saying 'eyes...nose....' and scribbled freely, and the face just emerged. Unlike a child-like drawing of a face with a typical happy face, this drawing shows a very complex, sophisticated way in which he sees the world, and draws it. The green dots are a result of his splattering some watercolor paint. Un-corrected and un-retouched.
Kai Ovalle, New York Member Since July 2008 Artist Statement I am four years old, and I have PDD-NOS, a spectrum of autism.
I love to draw with washable Crayola markers and Sharpies. I also do watercolors.
I love to draw on newsprint, backside of copy paper with mistakes on front, and backsides of children's book covers...
My mom says she wanted to draw like me when she was in art school.
She thinks she has a long way to go in reaching the level of mastery I have in drawing. She says I'm the best "naive" or "outsider" artist ever. My drawings remind her of abstract expressionism, surrealism, cubism, etc. I don't know what they are, but she gets really excited about my drawings and puts them up all over the living room.
You will help me and my parents greatly by purchasing one of my artworks.
