Jared Massanari, Asheville Member Since October 2012 Artist Statement I have been drawing for much of my life. First it was a lamp and squares and eyes. That was in grade school. Then after many years of work as a house painter and one rather demoralizing art class in college, I began to use art materials as a way to understand my feelings and thoughts during my therapy. From then on I was hooked. Art and self-understanding were connected. So were art and self-expression. These images emerged on various kinds of paper and were placed in a large box. I now work out of a studio mostly with pastels and oil-based markers. (Actually, it is more accurate to say "play out of my studio" since all of my drawings emerge unplanned.) I hope that you enjoy these pictures. Interact with them in a playful a manner. Be curious and spontaneous. And let me know if you have comments or questions.
