Description 'Farewell To' by Francis Duggan: Farewell to the young women I used to knowWhen I was a younger man decades agoSome of them are ageing grandmothers todayAnd some of them childless and single did stay.Farewell to the first feelings of love I knewThough the one that I loved to another was trueShe did not know I loved her 'twas better that waySince I've always found words like 'I love you' so hard for to say.Farewell to my childhood friends the girls and the boysWe had fun together and we played with our toysWe grew up too quickly and got to know careAnd we found out about life in the big World out there.Farewell to the Town Park where we played footballAn old memory fading that's nice to recallStill in my flights of fancy the old Town I seeThough life in the old Town goes on without me.To the old stream that flowed by my old home a tearful farewellAnd those old fields that will long outlive my doggerelAnd on the leafy hedgerows in the prime of SpringThe songbirds of Nature did whistle and sing.Farewell to the past since the past is long goneAnd without me life in the old Townland goes onBut fond memories of my boyhood years with me remainAnd I often go back down memory lane.

At eight years old in the late 50’s, I started private training in traditional oil techniques. To this day, I owe my appreciation to my mother, who has since passed away. Through considerable personal sacrifice, she nurtured my artistic talent and provided me with the tools and circumstances to begin my creative journey - the journey that I still follow. I cherish the memories of the art exhibits and museums that we visited in Manhattan. I later attended The School of Visual Arts in New York City (1970-71). During the 70's and up until the late 80's, I exhibited acrylic and oils in Montreal and New York. Presently, I reside in Florida with my loving wife, who I've been married to for thirty years. Due to the onset of chronic illness in the late nineties and with the advent of image editing software, I turned to creating digital hand painted images and photographic art - fusing these into an art form worthy of the same gratification that I had once found in oils. - Spadecaller (Matt Schwartz)
