DescriptionThe original subject I used for Female Figure 4 is the same girl that was the subject for Female Figure 2, though I painted this image after she was already gone from my life. I cropped a photograph of her and ran it through several Photoshop filters, gradient maps, and posterizations, and then from those I did some sketching. From there, I photocopied the final sketch and did some marker work, mostly in warm colors, especially pink. Then I digitally changed it to a monochrome blue, transferred some basic outlines to a canvass, and painted using the final monochrome as a reference.Viewers typically are able to more readily identify the subject of this painting, in comparison with Female Figure 1 and Female Figure 2, but there’s still an element of, “What is that” going on (unlike Female Figure 3).As with many of my paintings, Female Figure 2 features a female form with a strong use of color. Stylization, allure, composition, and design are a major part of my paintings. Major influences on my work include Andre Derain, Paul Gauguin, Henri Matisse, Tom Wesselmann, Vincent Van Gogh, Ryu Young Do, Geoffrey Humphries, John Piper, John Sidman, Pablo Picasso, and Gustav Klimt. Female Figure 2 in its original is an acrylic painting on canvas 20 inches x 37 inches.
